Your web design is critical to your SEO program.Professional web designers know that an important aspect of this is Flash.Flash is at the best to be kept minimum. The truth is- Flash could do more harm than good to your site. Sites relying entirely on Flash face even severe threat. Embedded flash is of course less injurious to your site’s health. The main concerns can be if the site is fully built on Flash. There are many reasons for this:

Navigation: The URL doesn’t change on such types of sites. So there remains only one page through which you can enter. Thus you are left with only your home page. This also limits your chances of the more pages getting indexed. Moreover you can miss out seriously on optimization of a number of keywords-as you have only a homepage for entering the site.

In any kind of SEO it is known that content is of prime import. The algorithms Search engines ranking the pages keep on altering. Content is one criterion which is 9 out 10 times given top consideration in this matter. So if there’s more of Flash and only scattered HTML getting your site indexed might only get a harder. With Flash the probabilities of browser incompatibility increase dangerously. Reading the Content in the Flash is still a hard job for major SEs despite claims on things being otherwise.

Flash inherently makes it difficult to deliver information on sources such as your mobile phone or PDA. In the Mobile market especially, HTML seems to be clear winner for a simple reason it loads faster than Flash.Web designing has always been about making the site more interactive. Flash is actually for this purpose. It looks best when it limited to like a movie/audio screen on your site. Too much flash is a major turn-off for many visitors. And worse still, web designers often tend to splurge over it while they should be using it skillfully.

See it this way –HTML is the cake while Flash is the icing on the cake! Too much of it will spoil your cake, will it not? So you see you have got not only legitimate reasons for cutting the Flash, you also know how it may prove most helpful for improving your site’s overall ranks. Web designing in SE optimization is of such critical significance that it better handled with due care and dexterity. It is not saying that thing will not change in the future- though it can safely be said that Flash in SEO, in the present situations, noticeably affects your site adversely.

There are many different types of web design, from those built using website templates and ‘build your own’ site building applications to complex content managed and e-commerce web designs such as those used by big brand names like Amazon, eBay and Tesco.

Some companies, even some big name companies, have unprofessional looking and badly designed websites. Some have amazing looking websites but because of their high graphical content and minimal text content can take an age to load, are not user friendly and do not provide what the visitor wants.

Good Website Design

Though many aspects of website design differ from site to site, many things remain the same throughout the majority of websites on the internet. Most notably is the navigation or menu.

The way in which a website’s menu works and looks is very important, as ultimately, visitors to a website are looking for certain criteria that will make them either stay and interact or leave. This ability for a website to keep visitors interested is sometimes referred to as stickiness. Visitors want an attractive visually exciting experience, but perhaps more importantly, they want ‘ease of use’.

Website usability is a key factor for websites that want their visitors to stick around, make an enquiry and ultimately complete a transaction and order a product or service.

Easy to Use Web Design

Internet users tend to prefer easy to use websites, because they do not want to have to learn how to use a website every time they find a new one. They should be able to use a website after only a few seconds of looking around a homepage, any more and they will leave and browse elsewhere.

The need for fast user interaction is vital and therefore having a fast loading website is also important for a website to succeed. Even with faster internet connections such as broadband, internet users don’t want to wait around.

Just imagine, if you go to a shop on the high street and are totally ignored by shop assistants at the counter for 5 minutes, even after you have made it clear you want help. There is a correlation here to how an internet user may feel, when they arrive at a website that has been poorly designed, is difficult to use, unfriendly and slow to load.

Making sure that a website has been well thought out and designed with the user in mind, displays a company’s unique selling points within easily recognisable eye catching calls for action and has a clear, easy to use menu is key to its success.

Flash Web Design

With recent web design advancements, such as the introduction of Flash animation and high definition video content, impressive websites have been produced to take advantage of much higher levels of visual effects and interaction. However with this ‘high end’ web design, comes a price, more often than not, web designs which rely heavily upon Flash content are often ridiculously slow to load. They often have a progress bar, which slowly goes across the web browser to signify when the website will finish loading.

This is much like the progress bars that you may be familiar with if you use video editing or 3D rendering software, or if you use games consoles where they are displayed whilst you wait for games to load.

Internet users on the whole do not want to wait 3 – 5 minutes for a web page to load even if it does feature high resolution images, animation or video. They want fast informative content rich websites. If they wanted to watch an animation or video they would watch TV.

Good Flash Web Design

This is not to say that Flash animation is all bad news and shouldn’t be used in web design. If used subtly and in small amounts it can make a website more visually appealing without slowing the load time down too much. Suitable uses for Flash animation in web design are things such as; Flash banner advertisements, Flash video and interactive Flash forms for online questionnaires or business presentations.

Using Flash for a whole website design however, is not such a good idea. It slows the user’s experience down because they have to wait for elements of it to load. Also, sites totally developed in Flash tend to use unfamiliar menu structures and features. This can confuse visitors who just want to quickly interact with the website and not be amazed by the way the menu animates.

Just because you can do these things in Flash, it doesn’t mean they have any real working value in the real world. They may look pretty, but if they are not functional and only irritate the visitor then they have no real value.

Flash Web Design & SEO

Another argument against using Flash to create a whole website is that it dramatically reduces the effectiveness of your websites’ Search Engine Optimisation. Flash web designs are made up of one main file within a web page which search engines find difficult to index. This is because the text within them is usually graphical text and therefore is not usually accessible by search engines.

Some recent developments allow some text to be displayed for search engines in Flash websites, but this is nowhere near as effective as text content within traditional HTML based websites.

Don’t Write Off Flash in Web Design

Although Flash does have its limitations it also has its good points if used correctly. For instance; Flash animation is usually smaller in file size than traditional gif animation and because of the way it is made the animation flows smoother than gif animation too.

Having said this, I would recommend only using Flash in small areas within a site to compliment other imagery that makes up the overall design.

Finding a balance between minimal graphical elements, imagery, Flash and good quality informative text is the key to a successful user friendly website. This isn’t to say that web design needs be boring. By working with quality web design companies there’s no reason why you couldn’t have a visually exciting, well designed, easy to use and successful website.

Visually Stimulating Web Design

When visitors first arrive at a website, they want to be impressed and engaged with what the website has to offer. This will be determined by the ways in which the web designer has laid out the website’s content text, images and features.

Arranging elements such as imagery, text, graphics, flash and video in such a way as to keep the visitor interested in the website is the key to good web design. If a website has poor design and doesn’t grab the attention of the visitor in the first few seconds, then it may well be dismissed as just another average website. This ultimately means the visitor will go elsewhere to spend their time and, more importantly, money.

Good Web Design Layout

A lot of time and money is spent making sure that the right elements of websites are positioned in the right places. Companies spend large amounts of money conducting research into how internet users use their websites.

This type of research shows where their visitors’ eyes concentrate the most, which elements of the website they click on first and generally how they interact and use their websites.

Most internet users will look primarily from the top left either across the page, or down the left hand side of the web page through an internet browser via a computer, mobile phone or TV set.

I would hazard a guess, that they are looking for the company’s name or logo, their main selling points or slogans and then what the website has to offer in terms of what is featured in the menu. After which their eyes are probably drawn across the page content and over to the right hand side. Successful web design usually takes this into consideration and will ultimately affect the way a website looks.

There are of course rather famous exceptions to this rule for instance one rather well known search engine has a web design which is quite different. The main focus and core functionality in their web design is located right in the centre of the page. This however, isn’t any ordinary website with tens or even hundreds of pages of products and services to display, its main focus is its recognisable logo and of course its search box. It does however feature a small minimal menu across the top of the web design, which flows from left to right. So even they have taken onboard some of the research undertaken into internet users’ habits.

If you go looking at websites after reading this article, I can guarantee that most of the web designs you’ll see, will have a left hand menu and a defined header bar with a company logo and slogan across it.

Krishna Mitra and Lucky Balaraman host this week’s show.
Help answer the question about mobile web design
Can I cancel a credit card with a 0% APR within the intro period?
Firstly, I am completely opposed to credit. It scares me because of how much people go in debt to it. I want the card for a single purchase and then I want to scrap it. I'm looking into buying a Macbook for school and for mobile web design & photography work; stuff that generates me some money now. I've been looking at cards that offer no annual fees and a 0% APR because I don't want to pay more than I have to. But I only plan to use this card for the Macbook and then I want to get rid of it and just pay the monthly fees. All of it will be paid off within one year which is how long the 0% APR lasts that I have been looking at. Can someone give me any advice? I just want to make payments on this computer and that be the end of it. I'm also upgrading my camera soon, so I'm selling stuff to afford that and I just want to use credit to get the laptop.

Tables design is the web design which uses HTML tables to design a page layout and control processes.

Instead of tables then emerged a new style sheet language CSS (Cascading Style Sheets).

Use: These languages or to e specific this language was then used to arrange page elements and text on the web page.

Introduction to CSS: World Wide Web Consortium introduced CSS language which was used to improve accessibility to web and to make the HTML code more semantic than presentational.

Advent of CSS: when CSS web design was introduced many web developers found it much easier to use. They considered the formatting through CSS very simple, infact they considered the <FONT> tag to be obsolete in reference to table’s web design. Earlier CSS had very limited and difficult to use layout capabilities but now the times have changed and now CSS ahs improved a lot with many common page layouts especially its 3-column design.

Since 2006 CSS has improved significantly but still there are certain websites which use tables for layout and CSS for text formatting only.

Tables vs. CSS:

- Accessibility: the layouts in tables are actually better over CSS because if you want to open your PDF files in your mobile phones then it becomes necessary that they are accessible and tables allow them to be accessible on mobiles also.

- Implementation: clever implementation of tableless design is able to produce web pages with less of HTML tags which will allow the user to download pages easily from the web.

- When it comes to tableless designs then if any changes are to be made, it is then easier in your CSS design to change them rather than changing in table’s web design. This is infact a difficult task.

- It happens that in some browsers CSS does not get full support and hence the downloading can be incomplete. This happens especially in the case of NETSCAPE 4 software, where CSS downloading is a problem.

Because of the modern technology nowadays, mobile website design in York PA is rapidly developing. Since millions and millions of people all over the world are using the internet for researches, several websites are being made by expert web designers.

Designing in Penn

The White Rose City or York got its name from the Wars of the Roses. It is located in the South Central region of Pennsylvania with a population of nearly fifty thousand. It is one of the cities that claim on being the first capital of the United States. Although there has been no proof to the claim, the city is among the booming place in Penn, especially in terms of the modern technology. And like in the other states of the United States, web site designing is getting popular in York.

What is a Web Design?

A mobile website design talks about what the website is all about, or simply stated, it depicts how you want others to see it. The contents, how it works, and how it appears—everything is decided on by web design York PA. Mobile web design represents the procedures you have undertaken in making the whole process. The design is dependent on the information you have collected in every topic or subject that you wish to be included. Designing the website is the process of arranging all the information through the creation of web pages. The web pages now contain the specific information showing why the web site was created. Similar to a book, the web page represents the pages of the book itself.

How to Design the Web Site?

The continuous development and growth of the Internet makes the process of mobile website design in York PA to take on different aspects, depending on how it is to be exposed and how the responses should be. Below is the typical process on how to go about with designing a web site:

1. Content. Choosing a substantial and informative idea should always be the top consideration. Aside from this, the information must be generally relevant and must be able to attract the target area.

2. Use. Never design a web at your own convenience only. As a web designer, the user of the site is given emphasis. Web design York PA should be user friendly and should be completely reliable. It should also be easy to navigate with a simple interface.

3. Appearance. A perfect mobile website design must show consistency all throughout the web pages. Using a single style of texts and graphics make the website more appealing and professional.
4. Visible. Importantly, the site must be noticeable and easy to find. Targeting most of the advertisement media and major search engines makes the website more eye-catching.

Blackberrys, iPhones, and Palm Pilots are rapidly becoming the standard type of device for the average businessperson to own. The convenience of checking your e-mail, having a full browser, and being tethered to the World Wide Web at all times can change the way someone’s job is done. For this reason, it is important for company owners to adapt and make their websites mobile friendly. In doing this, you will please more and more customers and make it easy for them to choose you.

You will need to do a little more than register for a sub domain. For a website named “www.CharlotteWebDesign.com”, simply registering for “www.mobile.CharlotteWebDesign.com” isn’t going to quite do the trick. These viewers have tiny screens and often their browsers display the text and graphics in a constrained manner. For this reason you are going to have to get a little more involved than copying your current site over.

Simplifying your website’s design is a good first tip. For an ecommerce website, most mobile users know what they’re looking for if they are viewing it from their mobile phone or device. Also, for other websites, most people aren’t just browsing the Internet from a tiny screen. The majority of people have a good idea of what they want to find and your web design should help them in that. This means that trying to employ navigation as usual is probably not the greatest idea. Make sure that everything important from your normal site is still available and don’t let the web design suffer but remember that most mobile users are going to prefer to click through links as quickly as possible and be able to search for exactly what they need. Another good idea is to make sure your company is known well on your mobile site. Displaying company logos and contact information frequently is a good way to start this off. In addition to all this, increasing your font size can really help your visitors out since they are on very small screens. This may take some of the frustration that comes with technology away! Also, don’t forget to display links to your standard page if some prefer it!

Having a mobile friendly website is definitely something serious companies should consider. More and more tiny devices are putting the Internet in your pocket and we should have the web design tailored to the people that we want to visit our websites. Getting your mobile friendly website up and running can be more complicated than you bargained for if you aren’t a web developer yourself so if Googling “how to …” doesn’t work out for you, contact CODANK. CODANK of Charlotte, North Carolina is ready to start planning your mobile friendly website today.

I'm fairly familiar with HTML and Javascript and I'm currently designing a web site. Are mobiles pages simply HTML pages that have been formatted to look good on lower-resolution screens or are there special scripting languages that make better use of mobile phone and PDA web browsers?
WML looks like its mainly for WAP browsers, would this be necessary for Smartphone browsers like on a Blackberry or WM platform? What is the advantage of WML?

This is a topic I have been giving some thought lately.

What is the best website design?

Is it a website that wins awards? Is it a website that can be viewed in every browser and mobile device?

As a website designer, I see websites from a different perspective than a typical website owner. But, for a change, I am going to try and put myself in a typical business owner’s position and as such, when I think of “best website design” what immediately comes to my mind are not all the things mentioned above. What does come to mind is a “successful” website.

Why do businesses create websites in the first place?
The majority of the time they create websites to promote or sell their products and/or services, so their goal is to have their website generate sales or leads, in other words their goal is to have websites that produce an income.

Ranking high on the engines
In order for a website to be profitable, there are several factors that must be considered as absolutes. One, of course is the web design itself. Two, is the accessibility of the site pages. In other words, how easily does the site come up on your computer? How easy is it to find what you are looking for on the website?
Three, is the search engine friendly towards the site design and construction. In other words, can the search engines read it? You’d be surprised how many websites are NOT search engine friendly (in fact only 15% of websites are!)
At Netklik we offer better website ROI by addressing all three of these factors. Our definition of “best website design” encompasses these three extremely important issues.

How do we do it?
When a client comes to us, we listen to his requirements and we make recommendations about which pages he should include on his website. But to create the website at that point would be a terrible mistake. Why? Because there is one major service that we provide PRIOR to website design, that is Keyword Research.

The importance of the Keyword Research
After we make recommendations about the structure and navigation of the site, we offer our clients our Keyword Research service. You see, the very basic nature of search engines is that Internet users go to a search engine and “type” in a keyword phrase. The search engine then looks for website pages that have that keyword phrase in them. So, if a website is to be “found” for a keyword phrase, that phrase has to be on the website!! But, which keyword phrase should you use? Our keyword research service can tell you. This research tells us the keyword phrases that people are typing into the search engines. Of course, we look for phrases that are related to the website! With the results of this research we are able to find phrases that give us great opportunities which otherwise would have been unknown.

At NetKlik, our policy is to use ONE keyword phrase per website page. That ensures that the search engines SEE that website page as a source for that keyword phrase. So when Internet users are searching for those keyword phrases, the client’s website shows up on the top of the list.

This process is known as search engine optimization and the results provide a client with much greater business opportunities, which translates into better return on investment.

I have various skills & experience including design and programming. I am frustrated at how much money I generate for the company yet how little I get paid, so am seriously considering starting my own firm that would provide web development and mobile development services. I've got some clients already due to side projects, but am nervous about generating enough work to stay afloat especially having a wife & 2 young kids at home. Really I'm not dependent on my current employer for anything besides salary, especially given the fact that we already pay for our own (expensive) health insurance. I've always wanted to start my own company and am feeling that now is the time. We're already poor, so how much worse could it be.

My question is, what would be some creative, effective, yet cheap ways to generate some business for myself?

Choosing a company to design your web site should be similar to how you choose who you make friends with. A good web development firm should be trustworthy, stable, readily available, and capable of helping your business reach its full potential. Just as with a friend, you need to become familiar with a web design company and know how they operate before you can trust them; especially when it concerns the financial security of your business and your employees.

A great web site will reflect well on the business it represents; unfortunately a poor web site will have the opposite effect. When choosing a web design firm, make sure that the firm you choose is able to provide acceptable and comforting answers to any questions you have regarding your web site. To help business owners to know what to look out for, and to ensure that every business gets the service they deserve, we have compiled a series of questions that everybody should ask their prospective web development firm. Make sure that for each question you ask that the web design firm can give you a satisfactory and clear answer.

1. Does the potential development firm have the ability to program in multiple languages? Can the firm explain clearly why they are recommending one language over another?

Often times development firms will choose the program that is most convenient for their staff to use. Make sure they are willing to use the languages that are the best fit for your business model; and that they can show you at least two or three real examples of effective programming language use.

2. Does the firm have the ability to slice using cascading style sheets(CSS)? Are the sites they create friendly to all types of internet capable devices?

Using CSS has many advantages for a web site’s functionality. In many instances it can decrease the page loading time by half while allowing for a clean and organized layout on both desktop computers and a full range of handheld devices. It is very important that the site is fully sliced, not just partially. Also, make sure to test their sites out on a mobile device to test how the look.

3. Does the potential firm have not only the ability to build your site, but also the ability to get it ranked on the major search engines? Does the firm have a team dedicated completely to search engine optimization?

A web site might look beautiful, but if nobody sees it, it doesn’t really matter. Make sure that the firm can show you at least two or three examples of where they have managed to get their clients highly ranked on the search engine results pages. Even more importantly, have the design firm show you their own search engine rankings.

4. Do the web sites designed by the potential firm have a backend tool that allows you to fully administer the web site? Does this tool make uploading images, files, and text easy?

5. Does the potential firm have analytic software (web site statistics) that will help you understand how you can increase your ROI and conversion rates?

6. Find out what sites they consider to be their top 3 biggest/greatest projects. Ask them to explain to you why they feel each of the projects is so special or why they cost as much as they do. After evaluating the functionality of the site, ask yourself whether or not you were impressed.

7. Does the firm have a clear process laid out from the beginning of a project up through the site launch and beyond? Does the firm clearly define in detail what you can expect from them, who you will be working with, who are their project managers, and if you can meet with them?

8. Does the potential firm own any assets, such as their own building, servers, and databases, or do they rely on outsourcing?

9. What kind of support can the firm offer? Do they have any staff dedicated solely to customer support? Can you meet with the support staff and speak with them personally?

Knowing that a firm has employees dedicated 100% to customer support means that you’ll always be able to get proper attention with troubleshooting issues.

10. Does the company show its own personal access stories on the web? Is there evidence online that support the firm’s claims of quality and success?

11. Will the firm provide you with a quote that clearly states everything you will be getting and exactly what you’ll be paying for? Can you see actual examples of what you will be receiving? Can they build something specifically for your site?

12. Will the perspective company show you a wire-frame (flow chart) of your site before it enters programming? Can they show you a logical plan for building your site?

13. Does the firm have worksheets and tools to help them extract additional ideas and thoughts from you before starting the design process? Can they show them to you upon request?

A well-organized firm should be able to show you these tools upon request, don’t accept excuses as to why they might be unable to.

14. Did the firm come up with ideas that you feel went above and beyond what you had expected? Did the firm encourage ideas that could make your company more money?

15. Can the firm tell you the last conference or seminar they attended in order to stay on the cutting edge of their industry? Can they name some of the benefits they found in attending conferences?

16. Does it feel like the web design fir’s focus is mainly on site creation? Is the wed design aspect of the business merely a part of a larger business?

17. Will you own the own the code that is written for your site once it has launched? Will there be any licensing fees?

Make sure you are clear that you are the owner of your new web site. Make sure that you don’t end up paying more to maintain and license your site than what you paid for it in the first place.

18. When you meet with the designer, are you also speaking with the same person that will be programming your site? Can the firm tell you roughly how many employees will be involved in your project? Can they name their designers, programmers, project managers, support members, SEO team members, etc.? Are they often the same people?

19. Are the firm’s sites coded by hand, or do they use WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) programs to do their coding? Do they do all of the programming by hand?

20. Does the firm employ designers, programmers, project managers, and marketing staff in-house? Are you going to be able to deal directly with their staff by simply making a phone call, or is it going to be a one time deal?

21. How many clients does the firm have? Are they launching a high number of web sites at regular intervals?

Asking these questions is an important process that helps ensure that you end up with a site that fits your budget, is marketable, and will give you the greatest return on your investment.

here’s always the argument of legal requirements for sites to be accessible, but, unless they’re big names or a business of equal stature, it’s pretty unlikely that this will ever affect your client. There are negligible instances of any legal action arising from Web accessibility issues in the entire world.

We firmly believe that you should take this matter seriously. The sites you build should be as accessible as possible, and that means work. To the client, it means a higher project price. So, how can you justify the cost of accessibility?

The Business Case

There are two very valid reasons why your client should start to think about Web accessibility:

An accessible Website will make your client money.

An accessible Website will save your client money.

Now, if that doesn’t get his attention, I don’t know what will. Here are eight ways in which accessibility will save or make your client money.

His Website will be easier to manage.

An accessible Website separates the content (HTML) and presentation (CSS) of each page. Wave goodbye to tables! Now, to adjust the layout of the Website, developers only need to make changes to the CSS file, rather than amending each and every page of the site, saving considerable time (and, therefore, money).

His Website will be compatible with new browsing technologies.

In the near future, PDAs, mobile phones and in-car browsers will all regularly be used to access the Internet. Do you think your client knows that some 50 million PDAs will be sold in 2008 alone as per a dependable source?

The people making use of these new technologies are generally high-income individuals. To reach this lucrative audience, your client will need a Website that functions effectively on these machines. (Now would be a great time to show him just how bad his current Website looks like on a mobile phone, using the Wapalizer.)

His Website will appear higher in search engine rankings.

By making a Website more accessible to Web users, you also make it more accessible to search engines. Search engines can’t typically understand images, JavaScript, Flash, audio, or video content. Provide alternative content to each of these programs, and search engines will have a better understanding of the purpose of the Website.

The more confident a search engine is of what a Website’s about, all other things being equal, the higher it will rank that Website in its listings.

Does your client know that 64% of Internet users employ search engines as their main tool for finding things on the Internet? Be sure to tell him!

The download time of his Website will be significantly improved.

Just 17% of Web users are connected to the Internet via broadband in the UK . You can be sure that if your Website takes much longer than ten seconds to download, site visitors will be leaving in herds!

The usability of his Website will be enhanced.

There is a certain degree of overlap between Web accessibility and Web usability.

A leading expert on web has shown that a usability redesign increases the sales/conversion rate of a Website by 100%. Look for the money value in your client’s eyes when you tell him this!

He’ll gain good publicity

“Make your Website accessible to everyone, Mr. Client, and you can proudly announce it to the world!”

His site won’t cause his business to incur legal fees (or bad press).

Although the client has dismissed this as insignificant, now might be a good time to mention it, as he’ll be thinking about all that good PR he can get by ensuring his site is accessible.

The RNIB (Royal National Institute for the Blind) and the DRC (Disability Rights Commission) have been exerting pressure on both commercial and government entities to make their Websites accessible. The DRC is currently investigating 1000 Websites to ascertain their accessibility. If your client’s Website is on this list, he can expect to hear from them soon.

He’ll increase his site’s reach.

This is a huge topic — let’s talk about it in detail.

Increase Reach via Accessibility

“Disabled people don’t access my Website,” your client might say. Why should I care?”

Well, Mr. Client, check out these statistics (for the UK):

There are 8.6 million registered disabled people in the UK, totaling 14% of the population (source: DRC)

One in 12 men, and one in 200 women, has some form of color blindness, totaling 9% of the UK population (source: Institution of Electrical Engineers)

Two million UK residents have a sight problem — that’s 4% of the population (source: RNIB)

There are 12 million people aged 60 or over — some 21% of the UK population (source: UK government)

Now, there’s bound to be some overlap between these groups, but if you add up the numbers, you get a total of 48% of the UK population. That’s right — 48% of the population of the UK, not to mention those of other countries, could potentially face problems using your client’s Website.

Beyond Disabilities

Non-disabled people can also experience difficulties on Websites. Not everyone uses the latest version of Internet Explorer, with all the plug-ins and programs that are required for them to have optimal access to every site they come across.

If your clients’ Website relies on images, Flash or JavaScript, and fails to provide alternatives, then numerous Web users will be unable to access his site. Explain the following to your client:

Users on slow connections regularly turn images off to enable a quicker download time. Some browsers, such as the text-only Lynx browser, do not display images at all.

Not every user has downloaded the latest Flash plug-in that is needed to view the site. Additionally, the download time on Flash Websites is often so long that low bandwidth users lose patience and don’t even wait to see the content. Remember, just 17% of Web users in the UK are connected to the Internet via broadband.

JavaScript is unsupported by about 4% of Web users, either because they’ve turned it off to prevent pop-up ads, or because their browsers don’t support it.

WebTV, mobile phones, and PDAs have limited support for large images, Flash and JavaScript. Check your client’s site by downloading the free WebTV viewer.

Would your client agree?

With these kinds of arguments, the only type of person who’d say no to an accessible Website would be an immature, unethical, money-hating individual. If your client’s one of them, just forget that client and leave him there itself!

Otherwise, hang in there, persuade him with these arguments, and perhaps a few examples of large, big-name sites that have already answered the accessibility call, and you’ll be on your way to landing a project you’ll be proud of!

Sony Ericsson Satio

Sony Ericsson have decided to really show off with his one. Groundbreakingly amazing is what some have called this handset with an impressive 12 megapixel digital camera built-in. A 12MP camera on a mobile phone? What’s the point? – Well, with that kind of resolution, you can take pictures big enough to go on a billboard poster (well nearly anyway!).

After hearing about the <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href=”http://www.mobilephonemegastore.co.uk/soon-paym-comingsoon/Sony+Ericsson+Satio/4/IDOU” target=”_blank”>Sony Ericsson Satio Mobile Phone’s 12MP camera it immediately occurred to me that with this high resolution camera, there must come a requirement for an extremely large amount of memory. That’s fine because bundled in the box with the Sony Ericsson Satio is an 8GB memory card.

www.tom-rogers.com – In a lot of web design work designing for the mobile world is too often.
Help answer the question about mobile web design
Would it be abnormal for men to have a Sidekick 3?
Currently I'm using Sprint's Samsung a900 (which craps out on me constantly). I am considering getting the sidekick plan (obviously t-mobile) without voice ($29.99/mo) but upon searching ebay for a decent designed SDK 3; I thought about whether or not it would be odd. Personally, I have never seen any other male that I personally know, own one; despite the efficiency. (web surfing and texting are all I do; i rarely talk).
If it is not abnormal, then, what edition would you suggest?
Points go to the the most educated answer.
Could you also bring forth information of "Sidekick ID"? I have no idea what that is and could potentially be a more optimal choice.
